Delhi, which was once thought to have flattened the curve is witnessing a surge in new coronavirus infections as public movement is going back to normal.
According to government data, Delhi has reported a rise of over 190 per cent in active coronavirus cases in one month.
Official figures suggest 84,087 new coronavirus infections have been reported in the national capital in the last one month alone.
On August 18, there were 11,068 active Covid-19 cases in the national capital and this figure increased to a record 32,250 on September 18.
In the August beginning, Delhi showed signs of improvement with less new cases and a good recovery rate.?
According to a report by India Today, the rise in the number of new cases has also led to a 35 per cent increase in the demand for beds in hospitals in the city.
Delhi health minister Satyender Jain said there is a downward trend in coronavirus positivity rate and better results are expected by next week.
"The positivity rate was 6.76 per cent on Friday. It has remained below 7 per cent in the last 2-3 days. Last week, it was around 8 per cent," he said.
