Ending more than a week of uncertainties and speculations, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is all set to become the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. With Fadnavis as the CM, the people of Maharashtra can now claim that they have a model Chief Minister.
That is because a young Fadnavis once modelled for a garment shop in Nagpur. The photos, clicked by Nagpur-based photographer Vivek Ranade, surfaced on social media in 2014 when Fadnavis became the Maharashtra Chief Minister for the first time.
According to reports, Fadnavis got into modelling with the help of his friend Ranade, who clicked the photos for the billboard in 2006.
Fadnavis, who holds a law degree from Government Law College, Nagpur University, and a post-graduate degree in Business Management as well as a diploma in Methods and Techniques of Project Management from DSE-German Foundation for International Development, Berlin, Germany, first became the Maharashtra CM in 2014.
His second term in office was largely forgettable and is only remembered for an unwanted record as one of the shortest-serving CMs of all time. Fadnavis, who assumed office on 23 November 2019, served as the CM for only four days before his government collapsed.
In 2024 too, despite the clear majority the BJP got in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, it was not easy for Fadnavis to claim the CM post. While he had the backing of the BJP leadership, the unwillingness of his predecessor Eknath Shinde to compromise delayed the government formation until now.
Fadnavis will be sworn in as Maharashtra Chief Minister on December 5, as he was unanimously elected as the state BJP legislature party leader at its meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held in Mumbai's Azad Maidan on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
