A parking attendant has been admitted to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi in critical condition after he was attacked with a cricket bat by a car owner.
Vikash Thakur, who was working as an attendant at Basant Lok's Priya Complex Market in south Delhi, was attacked on February 1 after he asked a car owner, identified as Vikram Jeet Singh, to pay a parking fee of Rs 60.
Singh, a PT teacher in a private school, had parked his Honda Amaze at the lot around 7 pm.
When he returned around 9.30 pm, Manoj Kumar, another parking attendant, asked him to pay Rs 60 as parking charges.
Singh, who was in a drunken state, allegedly started abusing Kumar.
Thakur came to the aide of Kumar and told Singh that he had to pay the parking fee.
Angered by this, Singh, a resident of Meharauli, pulled a Cricket bat from his car and attacked Thakur before fleeing.
Thakur, beaten more than a dozen times, had injuries on his head and other body parts.
DCP (southwest) Manoj C said a PCR call about the incident was received around 10.30 pm, after which the police reached the spot and found the Thakur unconscious.
He was later shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he is admitted in critical condition.
"Investigative Officer along with staff reached the spot where they found one man injured, identified by police as Vikas Thakur, a resident of Kusumpur Pahari (34). Police took him to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment," a police official said.
"He was found unconscious and unfit for statement. He had sustained an injury on the right temporal region. The spot of the incident was inspected and photographed by the crime team," the official added.
During the investigation, technical surveillance was analyzed and the car's registration number was verified. The accused was apprehended along with the car and the weapon of offence has been recovered from his residence.
A Case under section 308 of the Indian Penal Code had been registered at Vasant Vihar Police station.
Thakur is reportedly the only earning member of his family and was working as a parking attendant at night shifts and occasionally driving a cab during the day to make ends meet.
