Afraid of a three-year ban after being expelled for cheating during her Class X boards, a student from Assam's Barpeta district committed suicide. The girl took her own life by taking pesticides.
Lipika Parbin hailed from the village of Barbhitha-Padmapara which came under Tarabari Police Station. She died in a Guwahati hospital.?
She got scolded by her parents after she the expulsion from Bohori High School examination centre because she allegedly cheated while taking the elective Arabic paper test. A day later, she consumed pesticides and had to be rushed to a primary health centre at Chenga in Barpeta. But as her condition worsened, she was shifted to a private hospital in Guwahati.?
"Lipika could not bear the pain after getting expelled from the examination centre. After reaching home, she told us that she was not at fault. She was fearing a three-year ban," said Mohammad Latif, Lipika's father.?
However, supervising officer of the examination centre, Sajida Khatun, told TOI, "The candidate was caught for cheating after almost one and half hour from the time of commencement of the paper. In her case, it was decided to punish her under 'time expel' rules. This means she was barred from answering the paper on that particular day only. In no way, she was going to be barred from taking the Class X exam for three years. She could have appeared in the remaining papers of the exam."
