An encounter with a snake in our day-to-day life is not an unbelievable occurrence, but what if this face-to-face leads to the destruction of someone's house? Well, that sounds highly improbable. But an incident from Uttar Pradesh proves it's possible, even though it sounds bizarre.
It all started when a family in the Banda district spotted a cobra in their home around 10 am on October 29 and, in their haste, resorted to using burning cow dung cakes to scare the snakes away.
Unfortunately, the family's concerted action went south as the cow dung ignited by them for drawing the snake away led to some furniture catching fire, which subsequently resulted in the blazing down of the entire house.
As per media reports, Rajkumar, who works as a labourer in Delhi, lived in the house with his wife and five children. In this tragedy, although the family lost their cash, food, and jewellery in the process, the fact that no one from the family or otherwise was injured in the fire is comforting.
After being informed about the incident, the fire control station promptly reached the scene and successfully doused the flames. Local police authorities also conducted an investigation.
The Revenue Department has been notified of the extent of the damage and is reportedly looking into the matter, which may provide a glimmer of hope for the family seeking compensation.
A police official from Uttar Pradesh told India Today, "Further action is being taken in the matter. The family had allegedly been trying to remove the snakes from their home."
