In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old girl was shot dead outside her college in Ballabgarh in Haryana's Faridabad district on Monday.?
The girl, a B.Com final year student identified as Nikita Tomar, had come out of her college after taking an exam on Monday, at around 4:00 PM when she was shot at.
CCTV video for the spot showed the girl walking with two others outside the college when two men in a car stopped them.
One of the men then tried to pull her into the car and after she resisted, he opened fire at her.
While the girl was shot in her chest and fell, the shooter and his associate got into their car and drove away.
According to the police, the man who opened fire at the girl has been identified as Touseef.
Both Tomar and Touseef had known each other since school days.?Touseef reportedly was in love with the girl and wanted to marry her.
The family also alleged that this was not the first time Touseef attacked Tomar, with an intention of kidnapping her.
In 2018 too, Touseef had tried to abduct the girl, following which a complaint was registered against him.?The family however did not pursue the matter and the FIR was later withdrawn by them to keep their daughter out of any legal procedure.
The accused however allegedly continued to harass her.
On Monday, when Tomar was coming out of her college after appearing for an exam, the accused tried to pull the woman inside his car, in a possible bid to abduct her, but she resisted after which one of the accused shot her.
Since the shooter is a Muslim, the crime has been branded as 'Love Jihad' by many.
Times Now,?quoting a family member, reported that the accused had been forcing the girl to convert her religion for the last three years. When she refused to convert to Islam, the accused tried to abduct her and shot her dead in the broad daylight.
The shooter has been arrested while his accomplice Rehan, who was in the car, is still on the run.
As the family continues to protest demanding justice for her daughter, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance. Chairperson Rekha Sharma said, Ą°NCW is taking suo motu cognizance of the incident and writing to DGP Haryana to nab the other accused.Ąą
