The Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has been ranked as one of the world¡¯s top five business incubators in 2021-22.
According to the 2021-22 World Benchmark Study on Startup Ecosystems, KSUM is among the top 5 public or private business incubators around the globe.
The?World Benchmark Study is conducted to identify the best programmes worldwide and share the best practices for building a robust start-up ecosystem.
For the sixth edition of the World Benchmark Study of business incubators and accelerators conducted by UBI Global, 1,895 organisations were assessed, 356 participated in the study, and 109 were benchmarked.?
"Kerala is proud of this achievement," Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Thursday.
"The Virtual Incubation Program, incubation support provided to startups at various stages and the systematic funding mechanism for startups have all been instrumental in getting the recognition," the CM further said.
Earlier this month, KSUM was adjudged Asia¡¯s best performer in promoting talents, as per the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2022.?
The ranking is drawn up jointly by policy advisory and research organisation Startup Genome and Global Entrepreneurship Network.
In the first GSER published in 2020, Kerala was ranked 5th in Asia and 20th worldwide.
In the report, Kerala is highlighted on?enriching startup and economic growth. The ranking measures the ability to hire and retain tech talent. It also cited Government support and tech talent as reasons for startups to move to Kerala and flourish.
Founded in 2006, KSUM provides seed funding and also R&D grand for innovative startups in the state.
According to the data on KSUM's website, it has so far supported more than 3,900 startups with more than Rs 750 crore.
In 2022 Kerala had set a target of having over 15,000 startups and 2,00,000 jobs in emerging technologies in five years.
