Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni and accused of?running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, has been arrested by the UP Police.
He was arrested after hours of interrogation by the police.?
Mishra had appeared before the Police on Saturday to record his statement, after missing another summons deadline on Friday.
Mishra had reached the Crime Branch office in Lakhimpur Kheri along with his lawyer Awadhesh Singh and Sadar MLA Yogesh Verma, while accompanied by his supporters.
The second notice sent by the Police had asked?Ashish Mishra?to appear before it on Saturday after he failed to do so on Friday.
This time, the notice also warned Ashish Mishra that if he fails to appear, necessary legal action would be initiated against him.
The second notice was issued after the state government told the Supreme Court that Mishra would appear before the police on Saturday.
On Friday, the SC had come down heavily on the UP government for the delay in arresting Mishra, nearly a week after the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.
When advocate?Harish Salve, representing the UP government?informed the court that he has been served a second summons, the judges asked if the same was followed for all murder accused.
Farmers alleged that Mishra had run his vehicle over protesting farmers resulting in the death of four people and another four more in the violence that followed.
Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni has vehemently denied the allegations and said that though the vehicle involved belonged to them, his son was not inside when it ran over the protesters.
Several videos, shot by protesters showed the vehicle running over the protesting farmers, but the driver is not visible in the visuals.
