Madhya Pradesh home minister, Bhupendra Singh, today admitted that the police opened fire at the farmers on Tuesday, killing five of them.
Singh briefed reporters that both the Mandsaur District Magistrate and the Indore Superintendent of Police had been transferred.

"I admit that the farmers died due to police firing," said Singh, who had on Tuesday denied that the police opened fire.

The farmers in MP have been protesting for increasing the price of their produce in Mandsaur district.

The farmers turned violent, setting on fire as many as 10 trucks, one Dial 100 vehicle and three motorcycles in Piplia Mandi area, forcing CRPF and police to open fire to gain control, official sources said.
As the protest turned violent, Madhya Pradesh Police imposed curfew in Mandsaur and Piplia Mandi area.
