A passenger on a Bengaluru-bound SpiceJet from Pune was apprehended and handed over to the police after the airline staff found 22 live .22 caliber bullets from his baggage.
The passenger whose identity was not immediately know was scheduled to travel on SpiceJet flight No. SG-519 bound for Bangalore on Thursday. But during the scan, the airline staff detected the ammunition in his bag.?

After he failed to produce any valid documents to back his possession of the long rifle bullets, he was handed over to the police for questioning.

As part of the security protocol, no firearms or ammunition are allowed inside cabin baggage. But passenger are allowed to carry firearms and ammunition in their check-in baggage after declare orally or in writing to the airlines about it.?

This can be done at the time of check-in if screening of hold-baggage is done after check-in or before security screening of the hold-baggage if it is done prior to check-in. In the case of firearm, it must be unloaded and packed separately from the ammunition. Ammunition should not be carried in loose form and it should be in the proper package.
Even after declaration only those with a valid license or authorization will be allowed to proceed. Failing to declare about the firearm could lead to criminal prosecution.?
