Milind Kumar from Delhi is all set for his T20 World Cup debut, not for his country of birth, but for the United States of America, which he now calls home. The 33-year-old has?been named?in the 15-member US squad, which the country will co-host with West Indies in June. The USA team for the tournament starting on June 1 will?be led?by another India --Gujarat-born Monank Patel.
Kumar?who?made his domestic cricket debut in 2010 for?Delhi?represented the national capital till 2017, before switching to Sikkim till 2019. He also played for Tripura in the 2020-21 Ranji Trophy season.
In the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy Season, Kumar scored 1331 runs and finished as the highest run-scorer.
He was also a part of Delhi Daredevils in the IPL in 2014 and Royal Challengers Bangalore 2019, but did not get to play even a single game for either of the teams.
Kumar moved to the US following the 2021 Ranji Trophy season and made his cricketing debut with The Philadelphians in the Minor Cricket League.
In June 2023, Kumar was drafted in Round 4 by the Texas Super Kings to play in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket.
Kumar will?be joined?by two?more Indian-born players in the USA team - Harmeet Singh, a 31-year-old Mumbai-born left-arm spinner?and?Saurabh Nethravalkar, another Mumbai-born pacer.
Singh was a member of the Indian team during the 2012 U-19 World Cup, and also played for Rajasthan Royals in 2013. After playing domestic cricket for Tripura, he made his US debut in 2021, leading Seattle Thunderbolts in the Minor League Cricket.
Nethravalkar also played in the Indian team in the U-19 World Cup in 2010, with the likes of KL Rahul, Jaydev Unadkat?and?Mayank Agarwal.
