Amid the continuing heavy rains in Mumbai and adjoining areas, the Mumbai Police have issued an important message to citizens. In a social media post, Mumbai Police urged Mumbaikars to watch out for animals like cats and dogs that may have taken shelter under their vehicles to escape the rains.
"Paws for a moment: Ensure animal safety before driving off. Make it a habit to check under your vehicle for animals seeking shelter," Mumbai Police said.
Many on social media appreciated the message from the Mumbai Police. "Thank you for saying this," wrote one person, while another termed Mumbai Police as the "Voice of the voiceless." "Please honk and bang the car before starting it. Thank you for the reminder, Mumbai Police," wrote another person.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert in Mumbai on Thursday, with weather scientists indicating that the city may witness moderate to heavy spells over the next 3 to 4 days.?
According to the IMD, after witnessing a dry spell in June, Mumbai received nearly half of the monthly rainfall quota for July within just 48 hours.
As per the IMD, between July 7 and 9, as much as 422 mm of rain, or 49 percent of the monthly requirement of 855.7 mm, was recorded in Mumbai. After more than 300 mm of rainfall in just six hours on Monday, the country's financial capital witnessed intermittent light showers since Tuesday morning.

Skies were overcast on Wednesday morning and there were light showers in some western parts of the city. In the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Wednesday, the island city recorded an average of 3.42 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western parts received 6.06 mm and 3.83 mm of rainfall, respectively, a civic official said.
