In a rather bizarre case of theft, over 4,000 nuts and bolts have been stolen from a steel girder bridge in the Yamunanagar district of Haryana.
The theft came to light after an authority engineer inspected the bridge constructed on Saharanpur-Panchkula National Highway-344 and found that thousands of nuts and bolts were missing.
SHO Sadar Dinesh Kumar told ANI that when an authorised engineer examined the bridge in Yamunanagar on NH-344 between Saharanpur and Panchkula, it was discovered that about 4,000 nut bolts had been stolen.?
Based on a complaint filed by the construction company that built the bridge, a case has been filed under Section 379 of the IPC against unknown persons.
In April this year, a similar case was reported from Bihar where a bridge was stolen by thieves.
A full-size real iron bridge, weighing around 500 tonnes was stolen from Bihar's Rohtas district.
The bridge was constructed over the Arrah canal in 1972 at Amiyawar village and was declared dangerous, and local villagers were not using it.
The gang of thieves, posing as officers of the state Irrigation Department, used gas cutters and earth mover machines to demolish the 60-feet iron bridge in broad daylight and took away the scrap metal in three days.
They took the help of local Irrigation Department officials and villagers during the removal of the iron bridge. By the time, officials could understand about theft, the thieves had fled with their "heavy" loot.
