In a tragic incident, a doctor from Kerala who had recently tested positive for COVID-19 has died of the infection.
The doctor, identified as Maha Basheer, a native of Kozhikode was under treatment for COVID-19 in Mangalur where she died on Tuesday.
According to the family, the 25-year-old doctor was five months pregnant at the time, and attempts to save her unborn child? also failed.
Basheer, who comes from a family of medical practitioners was also married to a doctor and was pursuing her MD at Kanachur Medical College, in Mangaluru.
The family said that Basheer had tested negative for COVID-19 two days ago, but remained under treatment in the hospital due to breathing difficulties.
Another female frontline worker from Kerala also lost her life to the infection on Tuesday.
Aswathi, a native of Wayanad who used to work as a lab technician at the Public Health lab in Sulthan Bathery died of COVID-19 despite having taken both the vaccine shots.
According to the family, she was also suffering from kidney-related ailments before contracting the virus.
