They say that natural disasters bring out the best in humanity. At times of need, people tend to leave all their religious, caste, political and any other differences and come together to help those in need.
The ongoing relief efforts in Kerala after the massive floods is a prime example of this.?
Onam, the biggest festival in Kerala will be celebrated next month. And during all the festivities and feasting one item that is in high demand is plantain, to make banana chips. This is the time of the year plantain farmers have their crop ready for harvest. But this unfortunately for many the heavy rains have devastated their crops.

Kumar who was reporting about the floods in Idukki district wrote that he met Ashokan, a plantain farmer in Rajakkad near Munnar, during one such assignment.

But as Kumar and his crew were about to leave Ashokan approached them with a bunch of plantains.

"Please give this to any relief camp on the way. I am heartbroken after seeing on TV what has happened in Malappuram and Wayanad. I don't have any money to give. So, please at least give this," Ashokan told Kumar.
It is yet another example from Kerala, where even in the face of adversity people have put the plight of others ahead of personal tragedies.
