Tradition Or Prank? Video Of Banging Heads Of Newly-Weds In Kerala Sparks Outrage
A video has gone viral on social media in Kerala, showing what some claim is part of a local tradition associated with weddings.
In the video, a man can be seen banging the heads of the groom and bride as they were about to enter the house.
Newly-married get shocking welcome?
As the bride was being received by a woman, presumably her mother-in-law, a man suddenly bangs the heads of the couple with some force.
The bride can be seen visibly shaken and in pain from the impact of what just happened, and the man who did it acts like all is well.
The video was from a wedding in Pallassena, a remote village in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
The couple, Sachin and Sajila, got married on June 25, and the bizarre incident happened when the bride was entering her in-law's house for the first time.

Sajila, who posted the video of the incident on Instagram, said that she was told it was part of local custom as some people believe that the bride should enter her new house with tears in her eyes.
Calling it nonsense, Sajila further said that she was posting the video on social media so that no other women have to go through the trauma she had to experience.
Custom or prank?
After the video went viral, Sajila told local media that she was left in a lot of pain and swelling on her head due to the collision.
While some people claimed that it was a local custom, others said that there is no such practice.
There are also some claims that there was a custom of gently touching the heads of the bride and the groom?and not banging them together with force, like what happened with Sajila.
Wedding day pranks going too far
The video has ignited a debate over pranks by friends and relatives of couples on wedding days going too far.
In recent years there have been several incidents in Kerala where wedding day pranks have gone horribly wrong, resulting in all-out blows between the bride and groom's families and some marriages being called off.
In most cases, the newlyweds are ragged by their friends to do some silly stuff in front of everyone, like pulling the chair or making the groom carry the bride, parading them on unusual vehicles, etc.
But some of these 'innocent acts' can have unintentional and undesirable consequences if everyone involved is not on the same page.
