Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.?
The Congress leader tweeted on Tuesday morning adding that he has been admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors.
He also requested everyone who had come in contact with him to check for symptoms and quarantine themselves.
"¡°I have been tested positive for #Covid19 & also been admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors as a precaution. I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms & to quarantine themselves,¡± he said in a tweet.
Siddaramaiah's son and MLA Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah said his father had a fever since Monday morning and was admitted to hospital in the night.
"He was confirmed with corona infection after the antigen test was conducted," he said in a tweet.
The Manipal hospital, where the 71-year-old leader of opposition in the state assembly is undergoing treatment, said he is "doing well" and is "stable currently".
"He (Siddaramaiah) is doing well and is stable currently. He is undergoing appropriate evaluation and management by a multidisciplinary team of doctors," it said.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is also undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at the same Manipal Hospital.
Yediyurappa was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night after he tested positive for coronavirus, and doctors have said he is "doing well" and is "clinically stable".
Siddaramaiah is the latest high-profile name to test positive for COVID-19.
In recent days, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, UP BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh, Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti minister Mahendra Singh, and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram had tested positive for the highly infectious diseases.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh minister Kamal Rani Varun had become the first sitting state minister to die of COVID-19.
She died on Sunday at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, the government said in a statement. Kamal Rani Varun, who served as Minister of Technical Education was admitted to hospital on July 18 after she tested positive.
"She had comorbidities in the form of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hypothyroidism. She had bilateral pneumonia at admission and was shifted to ICU on the day of admission itself because of high oxygen requirement.," Dr RK Dhiman, Director SGPGI, Lucknow, said.
Chetan Chauhan, Rajendra Pratap Singh and Ayush minister Dharam Singh Saini are among other ministers in the Uttar Pradesh government who had contracted the infection earlier.
