The murder of a 23-year-old girl in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh last week was one of the most shocking crimes in the country in recent times.The woman, a gang rape survivor was on her way to the court in Raebareli when she was stopped, assaulted and set on fire by five men, including the two men who she had accused of sexual assault nearly a year ago.?

Now in a shocking incident, a rape victim in Baghpat UP has been threatened a 'worse than Unnao fate' if she dares to testify in the rape case.The rape complaint's family found a note pasted outside their house on Thursday reading?"If (name withheld) testifies in the court on December 13, consequences will not be good. They may be worse than Unnao."?
The girl had filed a rape complaint against one Sohran Singh, accusing him of sexual assault multiple occasions during her stay in Delhi.?
She had filed a police complaint against the accused in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar. After initial reluctance, local police had arrested Singh who was granted bail recently.?
"According to a complaint received in the Baraut police station, a pamphlet was pasted on the house of a rape victim that she will meet the same fate as that of the Unnao rape victim if she dares to give her statement," Superintendent of Police (SP) Baghpat Pratap Gopendra Yadav told ANI."This is a 2018 case, the victim and accused belong to the same village, the accused Soran got bail in the case then. We have registered a case and have arrested Soran again," he added.?
There are also reports that the woman could not testify in court on the previous date because of threats by Singh.?
The shocking incident which came days after another rape victim was killed in an attempt to silence her once again shows how difficult it is for women in the country to get justice.?
Amid the growing calls to make rape a crime punishable by death, irrespective of the age of the victim, many have argued that it will only result in more harm to the survivor as rapists may kill them to prevent them from being identified.?
Following the murder of the 23-year-old in Unnao, the Yogi Adityanath government which had come under fire for shielding rape accused MLA Kuldeep Senger, who is also from Unnao, and former Union Minister Swami Chinmayananda has said the case of the woman being set on fire will be heard by a fast-track court.??
