Novak Djokovic who is back in his home country Serbia following some 'eventful' days in Australia may have more troubles coming his way, for his refusals to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The world no 1 ranked tennis player who was the odds on favorite to win the Australian Open and become the first to clinch 21 Grand Slam crowns could not do it so and was quite literally kicked out of the country over his vaccine status.
Rafael Nadal?along with Roger Federer who also has 20 Grand Slams against his name is now most likely to first make it to 21 crowns.
Now French authorities have indicated that an unvaccinated Djokovic is unwelcome in the country for the French Open.?
France's sports ministry said on Monday there would be no exemption for him from France's vaccine pass law.?
France's vaccine pass law, approved by parliament on Sunday, will require people to have a certificate of vaccination to enter public places such as restaurants, cafes, cinemas and long-distance trains.
"The rule is simple. The vaccine pass will be imposed, as soon as the law is promulgated, in establishments that were already subject to the health pass," the ministry said.
"This will apply to everyone who is a spectator or a professional sportsperson. And this until further notice.
"Now, as far as Roland Garros is concerned, it's in May. The situation may change between now and then and we hope that it will be more favourable. So we'll see, but clearly there's no exemption."
French President Emmanuel Macron had recently said part of his COVID strategy was to "piss off" the unvaccinated.
It is not just Australian and French Opens, Djokovic could miss this year due to his refusal to get vaccinated.
Entering Britain and the United States for Wimbledon and the US Open could be more complicated, with much depending on the future course of the pandemic.
This could effectively end the illustrious career of one of the all-time greats of Tennis.
Notably, Djokovic has insisted that he is not an anti-vaxxer but wants to choose what is best for him - in this case not getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
