The atmosphere at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai reached a crescendo on April 9 as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Amongst the intense cricketing action, a delightful moment involving Ravindra Jadeja and the spirited crowd has been making rounds on social media.
In a viral video, Ravindra Jadeja can be seen engaging in some playful banter with the Chepauk crowd, walking ahead of the revered Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK's captain. The crowd erupts into cheers as Jadeja humorously feigns stepping onto the pitch before retreating with a smile. The focus then shifts to Dhoni's entrance to bat, further fueling the crowd's excitement.
The video, shared on social media platform X, quickly gained traction, amassing over 6,67,000 views and sparking a flurry of reactions from cricket enthusiasts. One user expressed delight, stating, "It's wonderful to see #Jadeja playing with the crowd. Especially after last year when everyone in the stadium was chanting for #MSDhoni every time Jaddu came out to bat. Not sure he liked it too much. But then again All¡¯s well that ends well!"
Another user highlighted Jadeja's humorous remark, quoting, "Ravindra Jadeja said, ¡®my title (like Thala, Chinna Thala) hasn¡¯t yet been verified, hopefully, they¡¯ll give me one (laughs)'". "He knows the pulse of Chepauk," echoed a third user.
Interestingly, during IPL 2023, Jadeja didn't get many chances to bat despite being in good touch. Following the CSK-DC IPL 2023 match, former Indian spinner Murali Kartik, hosting the post-match presentation, asked Jadeja if he would like to bat higher up the order in the upcoming matches.?
In response, Jadeja quipped, "Main neeche jaa raha hoon toh Mahi bhai ke naam se chillate hai. Aur jab main aage jaunga toh fir vo out hone ka wait karenge. Toh fir jo bhi hai, abhi sahi chal raha hai, team jeet rahi hai, main bhi khush hoon (I keep hearing Mahi bhai's chants. If I bat higher, then the crowd will wait for me to get out. As long as the team wins, I am happy)."
