WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio has announced that he will be a part of the men's Royal Rumble in the upcoming premium live event. Mysterio, who opened the Friday Night SmackDown in his hometown of San Diego, California, announced his entry into the 30-man over-the-top battle royale on February 1.
The 50-year-old told his hometown crowd that he wanted to do the impossible again, and he says he will be in the Royal Rumble match.
Mysterio, the 2006 Royal Rumble winner, recalled how he entered the contest at number two and went on to win it. The ultimate underdog went on to the main event of WrestleMania 22 and became the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time.
While admitting that it won't be an easy task to win the Royal Rumble 2025, Mysterio reminded the audience that in 2006 he did it for a friend, referring to Eddie Guerrero, who passed away in November 2005.
Mysterio was interrupted by Kevin Owens, who made his way to the ring and told the wrestling legend how much he respected him. Owens claimed that there was no one in this industry that he respected as much as Mysterio. Owens then said he wanted Mysterio to win the Royal Rumble and face him at WrestleMania. The veteran then reminded Owens that he was not the champion and added that he would be happy to choose him if the latter defeated Rhodes to win the belt.
Mysterio will join the likes of Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and John Cena, who have announced their participation in the Royal Rumble.
