If you are an X user, there is a high chance that you are coming across posts by its owner telling the world on a daily basis how the Republicans are good and the Democrats are bad. Elon Musk, the world's richest man, is busy these days, working overtime campaigning to get Donald Trump re-elected as the US President in November.
Be it by hosting Trump for an interview on X, amplifying posts dishing on Democrats and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, or spreading unfounded conspiracy theories, Musk has his hands full these days.
It should not come as a surprise that Musk wants Trump to win the US Presidential election as he is looking for a 'return on his investment.' That is because, in July, Musk had reportedly promised to donate around $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super political action committee for his re-election bid.
The 53-year-old South African-born billionaire is now the biggest cheerleader of Trump, in what many see as the culmination of a change that started in 2022.
That is because it was for the first time, at least according to Musk himself, that he voted for a Republican candidate. Until then, Musk had identified himself as 'politically neutral,' though he had made donations to candidates from both sides. Musk, who claimed that he voted for Joe Biden in 2020, took a sharp turn in November 2022, claiming that he was disappointed by the Biden Administration and that he wanted a 'sensible and centrist' to become US President in 2024.
The first time Musk made his Republican shift clear was when he said he would endorse Ron DeSantis if he ran for President.
It should be noted that Musk and Trump did not see eye-to-eye for the longest time. In 2015, when the reality TV host launched his presidential campaign bid, Musk had even said that it would be "embarrassing" if Trump won the Republican nomination, much less the presidency.
However, since Trump became the Republican nominee, the duo have become the strongest allies. And if everything goes well for them in November, Musk may even get a seat in the Trump cabinet, a possibility that both have not ruled out.
