Dylan Phillips, a car mechanic from Pembrokeshire, England, has set a new Guinness Record for the worldĄŻs fastest wheelbarrow. He set the world record for the fastest wheelbarrow after clocking speeds of 84 km/h during Straightliners Speed Week 2024 last month, smashing the previous record of 74 km/h.
According to the 38-year-old, the idea of the motorized wheelbarrow came about while he was drinking in a pub.
"IĄŻve always just sort of built mad stuff," said Dylan.

Dylan, who does car rebuilds and fixes up tractors and trailers that he then sells for charity, started working on his wheelbarrow a couple of years ago, out of his shed, using stuff he already had lying around.
"It was a dumb but funny project that I picked up for the sake of it, trying to see how fast I could make it go," he said. "I ended up building the wheelbarrow for fun. In a little practice run, messing about, I got 59 km/h and then the question got asked if there was a land speed record for it," Dylan recalled.
After learning that the previous record was 74 km/h, set in 2020, Dylan decided to take a shot.

"I found out there was actually a land speed record for a wheelbarrow, so I began evolving it and testing it and it emerged in my mind that there was a genuine chance," he recalled.
And he did it in May 2024, at the same venue where the previous record was set, by clocking a speed of 84 km/h.
Dylan completed two runs through a speed trap on the 100m course in the machine that's part wheelbarrow, part scrap scooter.
Dylan said his fellow motor enthusiasts were amused when his humble cart arrived at Speed Week.
"Everyone loves it ¨C itĄŻs so stupid. You canĄŻt help but smile when you see it,Ąą said Dylan.
