OpenAI, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup behind ChatGPT has introduced its latest offering -- Sora, a tool to make instant videos from text prompts.
"Sora can create videos of up to 60 seconds featuring highly detailed scenes, complex camera motion, and multiple characters with vibrant emotions," OpenAI said, in a social media post, which also had an AI-generated video.
According to Open AI, the video was created using romps: ¡°Beautiful, snowy Tokyo city is bustling. The camera moves through the bustling city street, following several people enjoying the beautiful snowy weather and shopping at nearby stalls. Gorgeous Sakura petals are flying through the wind along with snowflakes.¡±
And within no time, social media has been flooded with life-like high-definition videos created using Sora.
While everyone has been bowled over by the capabilities of Sora, many also expressed concern over how terrifyingly good it is.
"This could be the "holy shit" moment of AI. OpenAI has just announced Sora, its text-to-video AI model," Tom Warren, Editor of The Verge said, on social media while posting a video he had created.
"Every single one of these videos is AI-generated, and if this doesn't concern you at least a little bit, nothing will," tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee said.
It should be noted that Sora is not publically available yet and only accessible to the red teaming, which helps to identify flaws in the AI system.
OpenAI said in a blog post that it's engaging with artists, policymakers and others before releasing the new tool to the public.
¡°We are working with red teamers domain experts in areas like misinformation, hateful content, and bias who will be adversarially testing the model,¡± the company said.?
¡°We¡¯re also building tools to help detect misleading content such as a detection classifier that can tell when a video was generated by Sora.¡±
OpenAI is not the first to offer a text-to-video generator. Google, Meta and the startup Runway ML are among the other companies to have already demonstrated similar technologies, but Sora has taken it to an all-new level.
