Imagine an outdoor movie screening under the night sky splattered with glowing stars. Sounds like a romantic affair, right? Under these circumstances, a relaxed atmosphere blended with the charm of cinema is guaranteed to make you feel lively.
But a contrasting picture of an open-air movie screening in Thailand has left netizens curious. In a sharp contrast to the normal outdoor movie affair, a cemetery in Thailand reportedly organised film screenings for the dead.
The said screenings were held between June 2 to June 6 and were overseen by the Sawang Metta Thammasathan Foundation, as per a report in the South China Morning Post.
Nakhon Ratchasima, a northeastern province in the country, saw a graveyard housing nearly 3,000 descendants turning into a venue for this one-of-a-kind event.
With a goal of pacifying the spirits, the cemetery administration arranged empty chairs and facilitated nightly screenings to offer this modern entertainment-laced affair.
The publication stated that the ghosts partaking in these screenings were assumed to be descendants of Chinese people who resided in Thailand but could never make their way back to China.
In a set pattern, the projection of movies for ¡®expected ghost viewers¡¯ at the graveyard began at 7 PM daily and extended till midnight, in the presence of four staff members.
What makes this event more interesting is that the staff laid out a culinary spread for the dead, in addition to other offerings such as clothing, vehicles, model houses, and other daily essentials.

It is understood that this event coincides with the traditional custom among the Chinese communities in Thailand, which is usually observed after the Ching Ming Festival or before the Dragon Boat Festival.
The contractor for the event, who was admittedly scared about playing movies in a cemetery, later termed his experience as unique and positive.

As news of this unusual event caught widespread attention on social media, it sparked a flurry of reactions. Several users found the idea to be a chilling affair, while others delved into thoughts about the custom. One user remarked, ¡°This spooky film screening event is actually a very warm idea to make the deceased feel satisfied.¡±
