The sight of Virender Sehwag walking out to bat was enough to leave bowlers utterly agitated. If it was his day, the good deliveries didn't matter and the bad ones never returned to the field. Minimal footwork, excellent hand-eye co-ordination and a forever unquenched thirst for runs, Sehwag's batting would often leave bowlers scratching their heads in confusion. They didn't just know where to bowl to him on his day.
Eight years ago, we all saw a Virender Sehwag Show that left the New Zealand bowlers wounded, battered and they probably haven't recovered from the trauma yet.
It was the fourth ODI match of India's tour to New Zealand, which India ?won convincingly with ten wickets to spare. Sehwag scored a 74-ball 125 and took belittled bowlers such as Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills and Jacob Oram.
New Zealand had set a target of 271 as India's bowling contingent, especially Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma, had tried to create an impact on a batting pitch. As nothing went in India's favour, it was Sehwag's time to take charge and swing the match in his team's favour.
In his innings, which was ably supported by Gautam Gambhir, Sehwag smashed six sixes and fourteen boundaries. Now that Sehwag has hung up his boots, we do miss the way he took the opposition to the cleaners. Well, he's doing that on Twitter these days.
