We've generally heard of fans who wreak havoc or create a mess at stadiums after their favourite team wins a coveted trophy or match.
This one is a rare story. Aizawl FC fans cleaned up the entire Shillong stadium on Sunday after their team clinched the I-League title for the first time ever. The team's journey has been ecstatic as they are the first side from the North-East to win India's premier football tournament.
On hearing the news, the deputy chief minister of Meghalaya RG Lyngdoh said, ¡°Thank you Aizawl football fans for cleaning the trash after the match yesterday at Polo (area where the football stadium is). This speaks volumes of your attitude. We, the rest, should learn from them.¡±
In what was touted as a great North-east derby, Aizawl faced Lajong FC and drew the match 1-1. Before the match, they just needed one point to win the I-league. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are now second and third respectively in the table standings.
