When Virat Kohli comes out to bat, we expect great things. In fact, the benchmark is so high that we expect nothing less than perfection from him. So when he falls short of expectations, we feel he is not up to standards.
Now in 2020, Kohli has 3 fifties in 6 ODI innings. For any other player, that would be a good start to the year, but to someone of Kohli's level, it is below par. Tests are yet to be played and in 7 T20Is, he has some good cameos but no half-centuries as yet.?
But before the knives come out, let's stop for a second. After all, the year is still young. In fact we are only in the 2nd month. India have a long year ahead and Kohli has enough time to up his game and finish the year on a high.?
Mind you, he's not out of form. After all, he is playing well. Just that when we think Kohli, we see him in a class of his own. So limited success is not acceptable and we just associate big scores with him. Not the 70s or 80s, the big 120s and 130s come to mind when we picture him at the crease.?
Well, Test cricket is just around the corner when India take on New Zealand on February 21. Kohli will be itching to get back into action in whites. India have won their last 7 Tests and his form has been brilliant.?
So Kohli fans, do not worry. He is not out of form, just not at par. It's only a matter of time when he returns to his old self and then it shall be sound the death knell for bowlers.??
