One of the most impactful names in wrestling, Goldberg, could be seen back in the WWE ring, three years after he made his last appearance. According to rumours, the WCW icon could be back in WWE early in 2025 for what could be his last year as an active wrestler.
Last month, Goldberg had confirmed that he planned to retire from wrestling in 2025. The 57-year-old is expected to have ¡°one or two¡± matches before retiring.
Initially, it was reported that Gunther could be Goldberg's opponent in his retirement match.
This was fuelled by Goldberg's confrontation with the World Heavyweight Champion at Bad Blood. However, the latest reports say that WWE ¡°may have moved away from¡± the Goldberg vs Gunther match.
Another name that has been ruled out as Goldberg's final opponent is that of Ric Flair. In November, Goldberg had shot down the idea of facing Flair again in the ring, claiming, ¡°I love Ric. I don¡¯t want him to die again. I don¡¯t have a lot left in me, but I¡¯ve got too much for Ric at this point.¡±
Goldberg, arguably the biggest name WCW has ever produced, made his debut in September 1997.
The 6'4" former footballer soon made a name for himself in the ring, squashing his opponents in a matter of seconds. In WCW, Goldberg had a 173-0 winning streak, which was ended by Kevin Nash at Starrcade.
Goldberg was defending his WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Nash on December 27th, 1998, when the streak came to an end, thanks to the interference by Scott Hall, who used a shock gun on him.
Following WWE's purchase of WCW in 2001, Goldberg made his way to the Vince McMahon-owned promotion in 2003. After a short run, which also saw him win the World Heavyweight Championship, Goldberg left WWE in 2004.
He returned to WWE in 2016 and has only made sporadic appearances since.
