Tony D'Angelo has successfully defended his NXT North American Championship on the latest episode of WWE NXT, defeating Shawn Spears. On the 26 November episode of NXT, D'Angelo faced Spears, a week after the North American Champion faced his friend Brooks Jensen in a non-title singles match.
D'Angelo, who was not at his 100 per cent, emerged victorious, pinning the challenger Spears in the middle of the ring. However, the victory celebrations were short-lived as the champion was ambushed by Spears and Jensen.
Though D'Angelo managed to fight off the duo, he was knocked down in a surprise attack by their newest ally, Niko Vance. The trio then stood tall over the fallen D'Angelo.
The 29-year-old, who won the NXT North American Championship from Oba Femi on the 8 October episode of NXT, is also the first wrestler to win the NXT Tag Team, Heritage Cup, and North American Championships.
Earlier this month, D'Angelo had successfully defended his NXT North American Championship against former WWE and ECW star Nunzio.
The 26 November episode of NXT also saw NXT Women¡¯s North American Champion Fallon Henley successfully defending her belt against Tatum Paxley in the main event. Henley picked up the win, thanks to some distraction by a returning Jacy Jayne.
Also on the 26 November episode of NXT, former NXT Champion Ethan Page punched his ticket to Deadline by defeating Axiom and qualifying for the Iron Survivor Challenge.
