From the fear of contracting the novel coronavirus, hand sanitisers and masks have become two things people can¡¯t live without. People are being cautious about their personal hygiene and now a 14-year old boy is trying to take this up a notch.
Yuvraj Singh, studying 8th standard at ASN Sr. Secondary Public School in Noida, has created an automated sanitiser dispenser that prevents people from infecting the sanitiser dispenser.??
He harnessed the technical knowledge he gained from Stemrobo -- an Edtech startup that teaches STEM, robotics and AI to young kids. Stemrobo has been working to help kids get well versed with STEM-related fields in the beginning.?
They¡¯ve created an Atal Tinkering Lab at ASN Senior Secondary School -- that¡¯s where Yuvraj learnt to fabricate this DIY dispenser.
The dispenser is a regular sanitiser squeeze bottle that is placed in a metal contraption made from Stemrobo¡¯s Mechantron Kit that allows kids to play with basic robotics from programming motors to do particular kinds of tasks.?
The sanitiser bottle gets triggered using an IR sensor that senses hands/movement if someone wants the sanitiser to be dispensed, and the contraption presses and dispenses the sanitiser out for use, avoiding wastage while also being totally hygienic,?
This, however, isn¡¯t the first automated sanitiser dispenser built by the country's young brigade in response to fight COVID-19. A 12-year old Siddh Sanghvi, from Spring Dales School also revealed his creation with the help of Lego Technic Systems -- similar to the classic Lego blocks, except these add support to be connected to motors and articulating mechanisms to create robots -- slightly more complex but equally fun.?
