Xiaomi introduced its Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones with 108-megapixel camera sensors in February this year. The highest resolution camera lenses to date, however, might soon be trumped as rumours suggest the impending arrival of a new smartphone with a whopping 192-megapixel sensor.
A new smartphone is rumoured for a launch next month that will carry the record breaking 192-megapixel camera lens. It is, however, yet unknown as to which smartphone OEM is attempting this feat.
The rumour traces its origin to a Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station who recently indicated the launch of the aforementioned smartphone on Weibo. While this does sound like an outlandish thought and a bit impossible, know that the high-end Qualcomm processors do have support for this.
Qualcomm¡¯s high-end Snapdragon SoCs come with up to 192-megapixel camera support, as mentioned by the chip maker last year. Though no reports of such a sensor being made have been reported to date, a major contradiction to the rumour, that is if it holds any truth.
But the tipster did not just come up with the camera tip on his own. He even mentioned the model number SM7250, which is the number for Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 series. Interestingly, Snapdragon 765 SoC does offer support for up to 192-megapixels in a camera lens.
This support, however, is limited to snapshots. In case the OEM plans to use the high resolution camera for videos, features like HDR and more will not be present in such a camera.
As the rumour has not been confirmed by any OEM to date whatsoever, the rumour should be taken with a pinch of salt. But if it does turn out to be true, it will certainly be really exciting to check out such a camera.
