Bikes and scooters are the most prevalent mobility options for shared rides. They should not be the only one though, if Hong Kong-based Walnut Technology has its say. Interestingly, the company wants to extend the idea of shared rides to electric skateboards.
A backgrounder, Walnut Technology is a hardware company that hails its designing competency as its Achilles¡¯ sword. To date, the firm has come up with a range of electric skateboards under the name of ¡®Spectra¡¯ and some associated accessories like backpacks.

Now, the skateboard maker wants to extend the utility of its products. For this, it allows its individual customers to rent out their electric skateboards through an app. Those in search of a ride can connect with the nearest supplier, initiate a conversation with the owner and also pay the associated rent through the app. Much like AirBnb.
For sharing, Spectra X is the latest offering in the electric skateboard lineup by the company. It is not yet launched though and will be making its debut at the ongoing CES 2019. While none of its specifications have been revealed as of now, once out, the skateboard is expected to launch in the Chinese market beginning March. Its highlights are its replaceable as well as rechargeable battery and its waterproof capability.
