Apple is reportedly working on its own version of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool along the lines of ChatGPT.?
It appears that the iPhone maker has begun setting up the basic framework to build a large language model (LLM) similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard. Internally, the framework is being referred to as "Ajax" - built using Google JAX, the company's machine learning framework.
In principle, Apple engineers are building something called "Apple GPT," Bloomberg News reported. Sources told the outlet that Apple currently doesn't have a concrete plan in place to release the technology but noted that serious AI announcements may come out next year.
For now, very few people have access to the tool. The news comes in after Apple posted at least a dozen job ads on its career page seeking experts in generative AI. According to TechCrunch, the ads first appeared on the company's website on April 27.
