Extending its ban on Chinese apps, the Government of India on Tuesday listed 43 mobile apps which will no longer be accessible by users in India.?
The 43 Chinese apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
In an official press release, MeitY states, ¡°this action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.¡± MeitY received these inputs in the form of comprehensive reports from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs.
The release highlights previous such bans as well. The first one on?59 mobile apps, that included?TikTok?and WeChat, was placed on 29th June, 2020. The other on 2nd September saw the ban of?118 more apps, including that of the popular?mobile game PUBG.?
As a reason for these continuous bans, MeitY says ¡°Government is committed to protect the interests of citizens and sovereignty and integrity of India on all fronts and it shall take all possible steps to ensure that.¡±
This time, the list of 43 banned apps includes names like AliExpress, Alipay Cashier, Alibaba Workbench and more. Here is the complete list of apps that have been banned in India on the order passed today -
