Misinformation around Covid-19 has been a cause of concern since the pandemic and social media giants have focused much of their resources overtime to curb its spread on their platforms.?
Facebook is taking another step in this direction by notifying users who like?, share, or comment on such misinforming posts.
The tech giant plans to eradicate the Covid-19 related misinformation being spread among its users through this step. The?new notifications will be sent directly to the users who are indulged with such posts, while the post itself will be taken down from Facebook. The development has been reported in a recent?report from Fast Company.
"The company will now send notifications to anyone who has liked, commented, or shared a piece of Covid-19 misinformation that's been taken down for violating the platform's terms of service," the report said on Tuesday.
The notification that the users will receive, will read: "We removed a post you liked that had false, potentially harmful information about Covid-19."?The company will then even try to connect the users with other sources that are?trustworthy for such information.
All the users that interact with the fake post that is?later?taken down, will receive the notification. "If the user clicks the notification, they'll be taken to a landing page with a screenshot of the post and a short explanation for why it was removed," explains the report.
The redirected page will even offer?follow up actions to the user. These would include an option to unsubscribe from the group that posted the false information or to "see facts" about Covid-19.
This is the latest effort by the social media giant to control such misinformation on its platforms. Earlier, Facebook announced that it will not endorse any advertisements portraying false claims about Covid-19 vaccines. A similar fight against misinformation around the vaccine spread through users is also ongoing.
