Food delivery services Zomato and Swiggy have managed to clock a record number of per minute orders during the New Year celebrations. The platforms crossed 7,000 orders per minute as of 7:30 PM cumulatively.

Reported first by ET Tech, this has resulted in Zomato clocking over 2.5 million orders as of 11:15 PM whereas Swiggy crossed over 2 million orders as of 9:00 PM on Friday.?
Co-founder of Zomato -- Deepinder Goyal and CEO of Swiggy -- Sriharsha Majety were tweeting the crazy number of orders live, throughout the evening.?
In fact, the online orders seen in this time frame was double compared to what¡¯s seen on a busy weekend.?
Swiggy¡¯s per minute order rate reached a surprising 9,500 in the evening, shattering the records for last year by 1.7 times, while the number of new users on its platform increased by a considerable 80 percent.?
Zomato, on the other hand, clocked over Rs 100 crore in gross merchandise value (GMV), compared to Rs 75 crore seen last year on December 31.
Both Swiggy and Zomato had anticipated the crazy demand, especially due to new norms that limited people from stepping outside due to Omicron¡¯s rise.?

For this, Swiggy had over 300,000 partners on the road on Friday night, and lured them with a bunch of incentives, making December the highest-earning month for the partners.?
