Google Maps today has become an indispensable app on our smartphones. From offering us directions to the location we wish to go to, to offering traffic suggestions to pick better routes and save time, it does it all. And now, it is only going to take this to the next level.
Google Maps is working on including a feature that will allow a user to see how many traffic signals will they come across on a particular route.?
Spotted first by Droid Life, Traffic signals are highlighted on a Google Map route as small traffic lights with red, yellow and green coloured dots.?
These small icons aren¡¯t very evident in the map but tend to become more prominent when the navigation feature commences in the app.
The developers are not only using this feature to offer a more accurate ETA but at the same time give you the ability to change the route in case the ETA is longer than what you were expecting.?
However, in case you thought Google was the first to think of this, it wasn¡¯t. This feature was first spotted on Apple Maps where it not only offered to show signals and stop signs but also offer navigation instructions like ¡°take right from the signal¡±. While Google Maps doesn¡¯t offer that kind of turn-by-turn navigation yet, we can surely expect that to happen soon.
In case you haven¡¯t seen this feature on your Google Maps yet, it¡¯s because Google is still testing out this nifty feature. As per the report, it¡¯s not even showing on some of the beta versions of the app, which means Google is testing the feature out with only a few users and is expected to make a proper announcement and rollout in the near future.?
