Today, we¡¯re seeing the word AI or Artificial Intelligence being pushed into everything -- smartphones, smartwatches and so many other tech gadgets and services that we use on a daily basis. And this has turned out to be the next big field for anyone pursuing a career in IT.?
In case you're one of them, you're in luck. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has set up an independent institution for learning AI dubbed School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) in its campus. We already know how respected IIT Delhi is, as an institution and it has also contributed to several research journals in the field of technology, and in the field of AI since the last decade.?
ScAI will start with its PhD programmes in the field of Artificial Intelligence by January 2021. It also intends to start PG courses which are currently in the planning phase.
Professor V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said, ¡°The future progress of a nation will depend on its AI capability. Therefore, many countries have started investing heavily in AI. India is also responding to this. PM Shri Narendra Modi has emphasised the importance of AI in his policies. Besides, India is ranked 5th in the world in both the most number of AI companies and AI jobs.¡±
¡°However, we are lagging behind in some very important aspects, specifically in the number of AI researchers in the country and the overall quality and quantity of AI research. To fill this gap, IIT Delhi has established the School of AI on the campus. One of the goals of setting up ScAI is also to strengthen IIT Delhi¡¯s place on the global map of AI¡±, Prof. Rao added.
IIT Delhi plans on making the School of Artificial Intelligence a one-stop platform for industry, government as well as civil societies to collaborate or fund on advancements in the field of AI as well as help address problems faced by people from this domain with relevant technical and analytical expertise.?
As of now, the institution is emphasising on post-graduate level educational programs. However, after achieving a considerable number of core AI researchers, they plan to start professional-level education programs.?
