LG might be in a bind for its own smartphone division, with recent reports of it looking for a buyer for the dying business. The company, however, stays a strong supplier to other OEMs and it looks like it might be adding Apple to this list soon.
New reports from Taiwanese media?DigiTimes?state that Apple has commissioned LG Display to make its dream of producing a foldable?iPhone?come true. As per the report, the company has been commissioned to develop a foldable panel for the future foldable iPhone.
Citing industry sources, the reports mention that the division at LG responsible for developing and manufacturing display panels is currently working with Apple on a prototype.
Earlier reports are in line with the fact that the Cupertino tech giant is looking to introduce a foldable form factor for its iPhone lineup. The offering will possibly be an Apple flagship once launched and will compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 and other foldable Android devices.
It is, however, not yet confirmed that the OLED display of the future foldable iPhone will made by LG. Apple might turn to other makers once the design is finalized, hints a report by GSMArena.
Apple has been diversifying the development and production of its products for sure. In a new report, the Apple has hinted to shift its iPad production from China to markets including India and Vietnam. With an upcoming incentive scheme in India for IT manufacturers to do so, we might just see Apple having more diversified production lines across the globe.
