You might have been seeing a bunch of old people on your timeline recently, despite not knowing that many elderly or even middle-aged folks.
It's probably FaceApp, which has for some reason gone viral again, as people digitally age themselves.

The app was launched way back in 2017, when it first gained Internet fame. For whatever reason though, it seems to be popular once more, with a whole bunch of people on my timeline sharing their transformations.
Most popular of course is the Old face filter, partly because its free and partly because the transformation is so stark. Basically, it'll show what an aged version of you looks like.
For instance up there is me alongside my post-retirement self, apparently after a few drinks with the "boys" at the local bar.
There are other filter options too, including making you younger, changing your hair colour, adding makeup, and even adding creepy smiles to your somber face like so.
The app uses detailed AI algorithms to do a variety of things like add wrinkles, dull eyes, lighten certain areas of skin, and many other tiny changes that add to the overall effect. That's why it looks so authentic.
Give it a whirl, and maybe tweet some of your experiments with the app at us.
