Tired of your chatterbox Twitter mutuals? Worry not, the social networking platform will now let you "soft block" annoying fellow users on Twitter.
The action lets you block out certain users without officially blocking them. Like Instagram, Twitter is now offering the option to remove followers without informing them.
Clicking on the three-dot menu in the followers section of your Twitter will now show you the "Remove this follower" option. Once clicked, Twitter will remove the follower and they will no longer see your posts unless accessed indirectly.
Essentially, the users in question would not be prohibited from accessing your profile and tweets like a hard block would trigger. Instead, they will still be able to see your tweets and also send you direct messages. Your presence will be taken off from their news feed.
There's a catch, of course! They could follow you again after realising that somehow you've been removed from their feed.
Twitter's new "soft block" feature could help limit the scope of trolling and "cancelling" people on the platform. Until now, the user had to block and unblock a user immediately to limit their access to your tweets.
Now, Twitter is expanding its attempt to reduce abuse and harassment on the platform, which is notorious for vicious attacks on personalities with one ill-thought tweet or comment.??

If you know someone who's on Twitter 24x7 and "cancelling" everyone on account of disagreements, this feature may come in handy to block out their energy before it targets you one of these days.
This feature is part of Twitter's larger safety features, including a new Safety Mode which is capable of autoblocking abusive accounts on Twitter. The feature is currently available to a select few users, with no clear date for a complete platform-wide rollout.
