In another case of theft involving Apple iPhones, two former employees of Amazon have reportedly been arrested on Saturday.?
The accused allegedly stole iPhones worth around Rs 1 crore from an Amazon warehouse in Gurugram¡¯s Jamalpur village.
A?report by TOI?highlighting the incident mentions a total of 78 Apple iPhones to have been stolen by the accused. Employed at the Amazon warehouse till September, both the accused made away with one?iPhone?every day for almost two months.
The accused are being believed to have taken advantage of the new distancing norms brought in place with the?Covid-19 pandemic. As the warehouse resumed operations post lockdown, frisking was no longer a mandatory procedure with the new norms.
It was only when the company conducted an audit that it found a large number of missing phones in its inventory. The accused had quit the job by then in an attempt to escape scrutiny.
¡°Our team found empty boxes of iPhone models on September 28. During the detailed internal investigation, we found 78 iPhones missing,¡± Aditya Singh from Amazon said in his police complaint, as quoted in the TOI report.
A complaint was registered regarding the theft at Bilaspur police station on November 7. Since then, the accused have been caught and have now been identified as Anshar-Ul-Haq and Nawab from Nuh.?
¡°They used to steal iPhones, throw away the boxes and keep the mobile phone in their pocket while going out at the end of their shift,¡± ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan was quoted as saying in the report. He added, ¡°They were trying to sell the stolen mobile when we were informed.¡±
The police have recovered around half of the stolen devices from the duo, with an estimated value of around Rs 50 lakh.
This is not the first of its kind theft involving Apple devices. Last month, thieves in England targeted a truck carrying Apple goods in Northamptonshire. As per the British police, they tied up the driver as well as the security guard on the truck and left them behind. The thieves then made away with 48 pallets of Apple goods including Apple Watches, iPad models and even charging devices.
