Do you believe artificial intelligence could make our lives easier? United Nations may not agree. UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet recently addressed concerns surrounding the rise of AI, calling the tech's development potentially risky to human rights.?
To this end, Bachelet has urged countries to put a moratorium on the sale and use of all artificial intelligence mechanisms until a collective measure against its potentially "catastrophic" consequences is set in motion.A fresh report about AI was released in Geneva and warned of AI's potential use as a tool to profile people.?
Additionally, it added how rampant use of AI could limit an individual's right to privacy and even the right to a free trial and the very right to life!?
While referring to AI-based surveillance as the deadliest byproduct of a future society, Bachelet added that AI's cons outweigh its pros, calling the tech "incompatible" with human rights.?

AI and complementary tech is helping countries track their citizens, as seen in the Pegasus snooping saga from a while ago where governments across the world including India allegedly spied on journalists and activists.?
But it's not all grim in Bachelet's AI perception. Bachelet did acknowledge how AI could help human beings overcome the century's defining challenges.?
AI bias is a real thing, for AI learns certain behaviours that were subconsciously embedded into its code including racist profiling (as seen in Facebook's recent "primate" label on Black people).?
Automated decision making processes based on such algorithms could get in the way of assimilation measures.Even then, AI is real and is changing the world every minute.?
With multiple uses, AI could soon replace doctors, engineers, and even writers. Sure, it lacks the flow of thought humans possess, but that day may not be too far from now.Does AI bother you?
