While concept vehicles usually provide us with a glimpse of the future, Volkswagen has decided to bring in the old school with a twist this time. A glimpse of an electric dune buggy has been revealed by the company which can very well be summed up as a new-age makeover of the classic American dune buggies from back in 1960s.
For those unaware, dune buggies are recreational vehicles for use on sand dunes, beaches, or deserts. Based on the company¡¯s MEB platform, the electric dune buggy concept by Volkswagen retains the original appeal of a dune buggy, having no roof or doors. It also comes with the wide off-road tires and open-side sills signature to the buggies.

More than making money out of it, the aim for the VW¡¯s concept is to make a statement. Electric drivetrains can be used for producing more than just large-scale production vehicles, possibly for niche ones too, like the dune buggy.
The concept also proves to be a mark for the company¡¯s MEB program. ¡°Modulare E-Antriebs-Baukasten¡± meaning ¡°modular electric drive toolkit¡± is a platform upon which the 10 million electric cars promised by VW will be based.
