WhatsApp¡¯s change in privacy policy resulted in a mass digital exodus, forcing its users to look for more secure alternatives.?
This meant people went and picked one of the two most secure and popular messaging platforms -- Signal and Telegram.?
But one thing all of these users experienced was the loss of their chat history when moving between platforms. This has also prevented many to jump the boat and stick with WhatsApp.?
However, now a report by Android Authority has revealed that Telegram has introduced a way to shift your chat history from WhatsApp. They¡¯ve introduced a new history import tool on its iOS app yesterday with the update version 7.4.
In order to transfer your WhatsApp chat history to Telegram, the first step is to make sure both the apps are up to date and on the latest version.?
First, you need to open WhatsApp and tap on a specific chat that you want to export. Next, enter the contact info menu by tapping on the contact name. Once in, select the option ¡®Export Chat¡¯.?
Here it will ask you to either ¡®Attach media¡¯ or ¡®Without media¡¯. Choose your desired option.?
Now when it asks you where to export, simply look for Telegram. Once you tap this, it¡¯ll ask you the name of the contact you want to link it with. Here, select the contact name and within seconds it will start importing the chats.
We tried using the same method on an Android device and were disappointed to find that even though the media from the chats got sent, it didn¡¯t send the chats in the way we intended it to.
This WhatsApp to Telegram chat history transfer feature was first spotted only on the iOS version of the app as of now, and it¡¯s not quite functional on Android as of now, however, we can surely expect it to arrive on the platform soon.?
