Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is working on a new Communities feature which is supposed to be an expanded version of Groups, to allow more people to communicate together.

The feature was spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo, and it was still in its development stage, meaning the feature isn¡¯t available for beta users as of now.?
From the looks of it, the feature is expected to be similar to community chatrooms on Discord where like-minded people would communicate about their similar interests in a public forum of sorts with friends and strangers on the Community section.?
As per the leaked screenshots, at first, the Community section looks pretty much like another WhatsApp Group or even a private chat. However, if you look closely at the profile image on top, it¡¯s got a square-ish logo as opposed to the circle that we¡¯ve seen in the past. This could be done in order to help a Community stand out from Groups or private messages.

However, there have been some massive changes on the admin side of things too, giving them more control not just over the group but also over the participants and their actions. However, these tools are not known at the moment, since the development of the feature is still in nascent stages.?

What we do know for now is that admins will be able to allow people to join the Community via custom links. These links can be used by other Community members too, to invite more people in, depending on whether the Community is kept private or public.
The Community feature could be a boon to university students or office teams to interact with each other while keeping a track of the ongoing work.
