WhatsApp is working on a "Secret Code" feature to add more functionality to locked chats on the Meta-owned app. Earlier this May, WhatsApp introduced Chat Lock option to lock specific chats using their fingerprint, facial recognition, or passcodes.
With the Secret Lock feature, WhatsApp could add more privacy to the app. According to WABetaInfo, the Secret Code feature was spotted in WhatsApp for Android beta v2.23.21.9 and would allow users to set a custom password for a specific chat on the app.
The beta feature is currently available to users via the Google Play Beta programme. With a secret code into play, chats could become more secure on WhatsApp. A single secret code would lock the relevant chat from all user devices, the report states.

Currently, the feature is available via the Google Play Beta programme, with the 2.23.21.9 beta for Android. The feature could become available to all users in a future update of the app.
As seen in the preview, WhatsApp users can find secret code-enabled chats by using a word or a simple emoji. This secret code may be changed or removed at any time.

This capability feels like an addition to the Chat Lock feature that was introduced for Android and iOS users in May. This feature moves locked chat threads to a different folder to add more privacy to conversations. In case someone gets their hands on a user's device, chats will remain locked in this situation.
