It's that time of the season again, when The Golden Joystick Awards select their favourite games of the year. It's one of the most prestigious awards in the game industry, with people across the world allowed to vote.
And this time around, it seems the Battle Royales have done pretty well.

The Game of the Year for 2018 went to Epic Games' 'Fortnite', the game that took PUBG, merged it with Minecraft, and gave it a cartoonish art style. Fortnite has become incredibly popular in the past year, surging past the original game that inspired it. However, it's still a fairly surprising win, given it was up against the likes of 'God of War', 'Marvel's Spider-Man', and 'Red Dead Redemption 2'.
PUBG was too old to compete this year, but it found a way anyway. The smartphone version of the game that's been taking India by storm won out as the 2018 Mobile Game of the Year. Meanwhile Red Dead Redemption 2 did win the Critics' Choice Award, while Subnautica won PC Game of the Year (it's a horror game masquerading as a detailed underwater survival simulator, and one of my personal favourites).
