Comet Neowise is making an appearance in a showcase that¡¯s going on for the whole month of July 2020.?
Comet sightings are rare, and spotting Neowise comet so close to Earth is even rarer. The internet is full of beautiful spottings of the Neowise comet, however this picture truly made our jaw drop.
Shared by NASA earlier this week, the image shows the beautiful aurora filled sky with the Comet Neowise shining to the right-hand side of the image.?
Captured by Donna Lach in western Manitoba, Canada, the image not only shows the Neowise comet most of us are dying to gaze upon, but also has managed to capture a meteor passing by at the top.
Lach said in a statement to NASA, : ¡°I took several shots of the comet a few days prior with my zoom lens, and caught a whiff of aurora in a few shots. I had hoped the aurora forecast was right, since we had clear skies the previous night. I fought off mosquitoes as I waited for the never-ending dusk to show me what was in the sky. Finally, at about 11:30 p.m. CDT, the aurora and comet were both appearing, and I could see it was going to be epic.¡±
She added, ¡°The large, thick band of aurora soon started to dance, showing brilliant blues and purples looking to the west. When I saw some loops skipping out of the main band at the westward side, I was pretty sure I would see STEVE soon also, so I kept watching. Finally, at about 1:00 a.m., STEVE was visible. I was excited to see my wide-angle lens could capture the span from STEVE to NEOWISE and got about 10 photos. I observed the incredible aurora for about 3 hours, and it sometimes stretched above me. At times NEOWISE was outshone by the brilliant aurora, but it was visible the entire time.¡±
Recently, astronauts from International Space Station?shared 4K UHD video of Neowise comet which?went viral for showcasing the view from space in mind-blowing 4K. The comet is seen passing through as the sun is rising in the horizon that looks breathtaking to say the least.
Neowise (also referred to as C/2020 F3) was first discovered on March 27, 2020, with the help of NEOWISE space telescope which is located around 525 kilometres above the Earth¡¯s surface. On? July 3rd, the comet survived passing really close to the sun (43 million kilometres) and now it¡¯s expected to pass Earth in a few days.
